Indonesia volcano adventure video - Part 4 - Gunung Merapi

14 days volcano trekking in Java, Indonesia

In 2011 the Winster Cavers spent 14 days volcano trekking in Indonesia, starting at Anak Krakatau off of the West Coast of Java, and traversing the entire island to finish on Bali.

We've split the 50 minute film of the whole adventure into a series of short films, one for each volcano/cave we visited. Enjoy!

Part 4 - Gunung Merapi

A short distance north of Yogyakarta in Central Java lies the 2,700m high volcano of Gunung Merapi. In late 2010 a significant eruption resulted in large pyroclastic flows and lahars flowing down the Southern flanks, enveloping some villages.

At the time of visiting, a new lava dome was forming at the summit, and a small lava lake was visible.
