Photo Gallery :: Volcanic Eruptions - Mount Etna, Sicily

Mount Etna is one of Europes most active, and most accessible volcanoes. On average there is an eruption most years - sometimes a very brief episode, sometimes lasting a year or more, and on occasions very spectacular. The Winster Cavers have been lucky enough to witness several eruptions over the years, and we share with you here some of our photographs of eruptions on Mount Etna.

By day it was possible to get close to the base of the South East crater on Mount Etna, Sicily, and view the eruption at close quarters. Here, lava can be seen flowing from the crater edge, and lava spatter from Strombolian explosions is visible also.
